Thursday, 2nd October. Shropshire Star Gala Dinner

The High Sheriff and his wife were invited to attend a special gala dinner celebrating ’50 years of News in the County’ put out by the Shropshire Star.  In the 50 years since its launch – in 1964 – the Shropshire Star has covered every aspect of life in Shropshire and Mid Wales and today, despite the evolution of dispensing news, the paper is the 6th biggest regional newspaper in the country.

It has seen readers through triumphs and disasters, joys and sorrows. It has recorded momentous events around the globe. The Shropshire Star was the first newspaper in the world to carry a colour photograph of man in space thanks to their advanced printing technology. This spirit of innovation is helping them in adapting to the digital age where they were the first newspaper company to launch responsive websites, technology that automatically re-shapes the screen to fit a device, be it desktop computer, smartphone or tablet.

It was a splendid evening with employers and employees, as well as local dignitaries in attendance. A smart commemorative magazine, depicting many photographs and articles covering momentous occasions in the last 50 years, can be obtained with this month’s Shropshire magazine. It is a delightful pictorial road down memory lane!
