My Chaplain, The Reverend Prebendary David North, and I visited the Magistrates Court in Telford, where we were met by Mr Steven O’Hara, Chairman of the Shropshire Magistrates’ Bench. We were given a tour of the building and introduced to a number of Magistrates and court staff. We also attended the final stages of a court case during which the Magistrates handed down their verdict. We found our time in the Magistrates’ Court extremely interesting and are very grateful to Mr O’Hara for all the time and trouble that he took to show us around. The judicial system depends on the voluntary service of Magistrates across the country, who do a difficult but very necessary job without any remuneration. I would urge all those who would like to give their time to a good cause to consider applying to become a magistrate.
