Shropshire Army Cadet Force. Surely the ultimate youth club! Still well funded, the activities that cadets enjoy are remarkable, including abseiling, caving, kayaking, open canoeing, rock-climbing, mountain walking, skiing, mountaineering, diving and white-water rafting.  I joined the Lord-Lieutenant at the Official Opening of the Church Stretton Detachment’s new Detachment Hut. There was some fabulous music including some very competent bugle playing and also some interesting displays – I was shown how to assemble an SA80 Assault Rifle – a skill that I hope I won’t actually need.   Like so many things, the Cadet Force depends upon the energy of volunteers, and Sir Algernon made a point of thanking them for their extraordinary dedication and hard work.
