Veronica and I attended Merefest 2017, a country festival that is held each year beside the lake in Ellesmere. We were met by Luke Neil of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, which runs the festival. There was a wide variety of different activities – mountain bikes, a climbing tower, zip wires, canoeing, archery etc – and country craft and charity stalls, as well as excellent singing from the Ellesmere College choir. Despite the uncertain weather, it was good to see a high turnout of local families, drawn by the outdoor activities and country crafts.
