Veronica and I visited Market Daryton at the invitation of the Mayor, Cllr Matthew Erwin. We met in the Festival Daryton Centre and were shown around by Geoff Vernon MBE, who has been the driving force behind the centre over the last 30 years. The Centre is based in an old Methodist Chapel which has considerably extended and refurbished over recent years to provide a very impressive community centre, boasting a 200 seat theatre and a series of rooms to hire.We met the Mayor and others for a discussion about setting up a “one stop shop” in Market Daryton for various charities operating in the county, and were then taken on a tour of the town by the Mayor. The town has some beautiful buildings and the attached photograph shows us outside the school which Clive of India attended aas a child.
