Veronica and I attended a lunch followed by Choral Evensong at The Abbey Church, Shrewsbury as part of the Province of Shropshire’s celebration to mark the Tercentenary of the United Grand Lodge of England. The lunch was held at the Lord Hill Hotel and was hosted by Peter Taylor, the Provincial Grand Master. The service, which started with a colourful Procession into the Abbey Church by representatives of all 34 Shropshire Lodges, was attended by Freemasons from around Shropshire and beyond. We were welcomed by the Rev. Paul Firmin, vicar of Shrewsbury Abbey, and the service was conducted by the Rev. Philip Niblock, Provincial Grand Chaplain. A sermon was preached by the Rev. Canon Michael Wilson, Grand Chaplain. It was an impressive display by the Freemasons, who were wearing their regalia in public for the first time in many years.
