I then visited the Fire Brigade Training Centre at Stafford Park in Telford, where I met Rod Hammerton, Chief Fire Officer. We were shown round the training facilities by Station Manager Darren Smith and Watch Manager Training Matt Angell, and witnessed a live fire drill with very impressive flames billowing from a training building. We also saw the simulated command and control programme, designed to test the ability of senior officers to work under pressure, particularly where bad road accidents have occurred. The Fire Birgade’s training routine is most impressive as is the professionalism within the Shropshire fire service as a whole.
