Wednesday, 27th August. Great War Service at St Chads Church, Shrewsbury

A service of rememberence was held in St Chad’s Church at Evensong, lead by the vicar of St. Chads, the Rev. Mark Chadwick, to honour the soldiers from Shropshire who died in the first weeks of WW1.

From now on every Wednesday, at the same time, a commemorative service will be held, remembering each individual soldier from the county of Shropshire who died in the course of the Great War. Also remembered are old Salopians who fell; their names are remembered in the Shrewsbury School section of the 1022 roll. The men remembered and honoured today fell during the fighting at Mons in Belgium and the retreat following it. There were also extracts from the ‘Memory Corner’ of the Shrewsbury Chronicle depicting life in Shrewsbury, relating to the war effort, 100 years ago.

As mentioned above these services will continue to be held at 5pm every Wednesday and very much welcome anyone who would like to attend.
