The Loggerhead Memorial Stone

The Chairman of Shropshire Council, Councillor Malcolm Pate, kindly invited the High Sheriff and his wife to attend the Remembrance Service at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury. Councillor Pate laid a wreath on the Memorial Stones in the Quadrangle, inside the Shirehall, to commemorate the Council staff who lost their lives in the service of their country in the two World Wars.

The service commenced at 11am. The Last Post was played by a bugler from the Royal Irish Regiment.  After the two minutes’ silence, prayers of remembrance were led by Father Mark Chadwick, the Vicar of St. Chad’s. The Act of Homage was read by the Chairman. All Councillors and staff were invited to attend the service. Special guests included the Vice Lord`Lieutenant of Shropshire, Col Edmund Thewles OBE DL, Honorary Alderman of the County and representatives of the Armed Forces and the Royal British Legion.
