Tuesday, !0th February Market Drayton Rotary ‘Tree of Light’ Awards

photo rott2For the second time in his year of office the High Sheriff was invited by the Chairman of Market Drayton Rotary Club, Mr Lindsay Bashford, to the award ceremony of their annual Christmas ‘Tree of Light’ fund raising campaign.

This is an annual informal event held at the Four Alls Motel, Woodseaves, where the Chairman gives a cheque to a charity/charities of his choice from the monies raised. Over £5.000 was raised this last Christmas, of which half was donated to two chosen charities – The Alzheimer’s Society and the Severn Hospice – and the other half to other smaller local charities which the Rotary Club regularly support.

The Market Drayton Rotary Club is part of Rotary International and was formed in Market Drayton in 1959. It is open to men, and women, representing a wide variety of professions, businesses and trades. Visiting Rotarians are most welcome, as are ladies and gentlemen wishing to know more about the Rotary organisation or become members. Rotary clubs are based in local communities across the world with members meeting on a regular basis for fun and friendship, and to plan projects that will benefit the lives of others. Members encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise in the local community, the UK and world-wide. For much more information on the Rotary Club, what it’s about, their fundraising activities and contributions to local communities as well as global charities, please go to their website:  Rotary Club uk or Rotary Club Market Drayton.
