Veronica and I visited the TG Quarry in Wood Lane, Ellesmere on Tuesday 2nd August. Billy Griffiths, Chairman of TG Group, kindly showed us round the quarries where the sand and gravel are extracted and cleaned, and the conservation work to return the land to its original state. We were extremely impressed by extent of the quarrying and of the work to minimise the effect on the local environment in partnership with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.  Kevin Gardiner, TG Environmental General Manager, then showed us round the recycling plant and the renewal energy bio-mass boilers, and explained how the Group takes in building waste and aims to recycle c 90{9d575b0d2b9f93e1b2c508b6230ba5fded112c87afe25a7f48110155290734ef} so that only a relatively small balance goes to landfill, where the resulting methane is extracted to power generators producing the electricity that powers the site.
