Sunday, 28th September. The ‘Shropshire Bake Off’ in aid of SRCC

An extremely bright, warm autumn day gave way to a charity event to raise money for the ‘Shropshire Rural Community Council’ (SRCC) at The Brompton Cookery School, Atcham, just outside Shrewsbury.   A competition of baking sponges, cupcakes, biscuits and pastries kept the huge number of visitors enthralled, along with numerous activities to keep young children happily entertained.  Due to it’s enormous success ‘The Shropshire Bake Off’ is becoming an annual event with attendance of many 100s of people and well over 50 competitors wanting to prove their baking skills.

Elodie Holmes, the energetic head of Fundraising welcomed the High Sheriff when he dropped in to give his support to the occasion and see for himself the huge amount of work done to ensure the day would be a total success. Marquees had been set up to house the numerous activities and stalls, but fortunately the weather was so beautiful that families were able to relax in the gardens of the Brompton Farm House adjacent to the Cookery School. Part of the activities organised was the ever popular Vintage Pop Up Cafe, offering burgers and soup as well as delicious cakes and pastries. There were local food and craft stalls, a flower competition and stall, Magic Kev, a Bouncy Castle, Art & Craft activities and lots more!

The High Sheriff met the Chief Executive, Julia Barron as well as Community Project Manager, Renee Wallace and was able to discuss matters of fund raising opportunities with them. The ‘Shropshire Bake Off’ is proving to be an important event for the autumn diary and hugely successful in raising precious funds.
