At the invitation of Alastait Godfrey, Project Leader for Historic Engalnd at the Flaxmill Maltings, Veronica and I visited the site to view the progress being made in the restoration of the main mill. We greatly enjoyed the visit and were extremely impressed with the effect of re-opening the windows (which were bricked up when the mill was converted to a malting in late C19) and the extraordinary views that this opens up of Shrewsbury and the surrounding country. There is much work to be done, and Historic England is using this opportunity to create a cafe, museum and office accommodation on the site and thus to provide an uplift to this area of Shrewsbury.
