Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 12th November 2017

At the invitation of the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Jane Mackenzie, Veronica and I attended a Remembrance Day service at St Chad’s in Shrewsbury followed by the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in the Quarry and the March past by HM Forces, the Royal British Legion and the cadets and scouts. The Bishop of Lichfield preached an inspiring sermon about the important place of the military in the life of the country. The senior military representatives attending the ceremony were Major-General John Crackett, Group Captain Robert Norris and Lieutenant Luke Prausnitz RN. The series of events from the initial gathering in the Castle, the procession through the streets of Shrewsbury (in heavy rain!) to St Chad’s, the service of remembrance and the subsequent laying of wreaths and the March past were extremely well organised and done with great dignity.
