My last act as High Sheriff was to officiate at the transfer of the office to Rhoddy Swire near his home in Ludlow. After an excellent lunch at the Swires in Broad Street, we processed to Palmers Hall, where Lord Justice McFarlane gave a witty and elegant address, following which Rhoddy made his Declaration and outlined the focus that he intends to bring to local charities within the county during his year in office. After the ceremony, the congregation returned to Broad Street for an excellent tea, where it was a pleasure for Veronica and me to see so many of the High Sheriffs from neighbouring counties who have held office in 2017-2018.
