Nearly 200 swimmers from across the country took part in the 12th gala organised by Shrewsbury Masters Swimming Club. The club that I joined after the Severn Mile Swim in an attempt to prevent death by canape.
There were classes for competitors of all ages – from 19-year-old Claire Beddow, who was the youngest taking part, to venerable 86-year-old Ted Hoy, who was the oldest. It was great fun but there is no point trying to pretend that the Quarry is looking very tired. Next year I will pull on my Speedos.
