Dr Josh Dixey, High Sheriff of Shropshire 2019-20

From our archive:

I’m very humbled and honoured to be Shropshire’s High Sheriff for the year 2019-20. As High Sheriff, my responsibility is to represent the Queen in all matters relating to law & order. With Shropshire’s geographical size and mix of urban & rural population, this will represent a great challenge.

My family have lived in the county for almost 30 years and I continue to work as a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust Hospital, Oswestry.

I took office as High Sheriff of Shropshire on 22rd March 2019 and made my Declaration as High Sheriff at Shrewsbury Castle. I am very grateful to be supported by my wife Diana, my Under Sheriff Madeleine Butcher and my Chaplain The Reverend Christopher Bull.

Practically, the role will involve supporting all those involved in providing law & order in the county with focus on the Police, Ambulance Service & Fire Service, the Military and Judiciary. Along with these responsibilities,

I’m very keen to support local charities and highlight all the good and impressive work which takes place, largely unseen, in the voluntary sector. I’m also keen to continue Rhoderick’s Swire’s, my immediate predecessor as High Sheriff, good work in re-invigorating the Shropshire Community Fund.

In summary, in my role as High Sheriff, I will act as an enabler and, hopefully, shine light on the great things which happen in our wonderful county.
